This month we are reading The Memory Keeper's Daughter by Kim Edwards. Our next meeting will be held the second week of March and Stacey will be hosting it. We are looking forward to a another fun discussion.

February 12th Meeting

We had a fun evening at the Craven County Library in Downtown New Bern, discussing The Zookeeper's Wife and playing a rousing game of Taboo. The book club questions were not the greatest yet the conversation about the book was interesting. There seemed to be mixed feelings about actual storyline yet we all agreed that the author was too longwinded.

Come As You Like

If you know Brittany at all, then you know she can't pass up a chance to dress up as something!  She decided to ask everyone to dress up as a character from their favorite (or well-liked) book and have everyone try to match their characters to the books we brought. We had a small turn-out but the costumes did NOT disappoint! haha

We walked in the door and were immediately surprised by this guy:

Carrie dressed as the father from The Road.  She played a really good nomad, but without the smell. 

 

Melissa dressed up as Scarlett O'Hara from Gone With The Wind.  She loves period pieces and brought her well worn copy of the novel.

Brittany came as Tris from Divergent.  Don't worry, no photographer was harmed during the photo shoot!

 

We have added a few new faces to Book Club this year!  This is Jenni, Carrie's friend whom she met through their husbands' work.  She came as the dog from The Art Of Racing In The Rain.  She didn't really want to be a dog, but eventually gave in!

 

We also welcomed Stacey, a neighbor of Brittany's, who dressed up as Lyra from The Golden Compass.  It was interesting to hear the differences between England and the U.S. surrounding the book.



 

We played a really fun game called Buzz Word, and don't have any pictures because Brittany would have killed the person who stopped playing long enough to take one.  Just know that everyone left a winner! ;)  Here is our fun group--and we hope more of you can make it next time!  (Big thanks to Nathaniel, the paparazzi photographer.)

January Kick-Off

Our first meeting of 2013 will be on Thursday Jan. 10th at 7pm at Carrie's house. Join in the fun and dress up as a character from your favorite book! Please bring a finger food to share so we can eat some yummy treats and play some games with friends. Melissa Young will have our first book of the year. Also, we welcome some new faces to book club: Stacey, Jenni, and Melissa T. We are so excited to get back into the swing of things!! See you all there!

November Book Club Meeting

Jamie and Lauren hosted November's meeting with a delicious breakfast and craft morning. The consensus was that we all enjoyed Heaven is Here and it really put life into perspective.

Enjoy the December break--you get to read whatever you want! haha See you in January!

September Book Club Meeting

Amy hosted for Septembers meeting and she threw a fun lil "BC" party for Carla at Olive Garden!

The Book for the month was The Replacement Wife by Eileen Gouge. It was definitely an interesting book that made for great question/answer conversation!


Wendy will be hosting in October and she has picked The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern!!

August Book Club Meeting

Carla hosted our August Book Club Meeting. She had us all take a quiz that determined which of the 5 personalities we would be if we were to be placed in a faction! It was great fun to be able to visit with one another and talk about the book.

Our next Months book pick has been Selected by Amy. Its called The Replacement Wife by Eileen Goudge.
